The Lord Mayor of the City of Halle (Saale)
Since December 1, 2012, (nonpartisan) Dr. Bernd Wiegand acts for and represents the City of Halle (Saale), birthplace of George Frederick Handel. Dr. Wiegand was elected Lord Mayor by the people for a term of seven years.
As the Lord Mayor, Dr. Bernd Wiegand is responsible for the proper discharge of urban functions and the correct course of administration. He also regulates the internal organization of the Halle municipality with about 2.500 employees and manages the operations of the current administration.
Main governing body is the City Council of the City of Halle (Saale). The Lord Mayor prepares the decisions of the City Council and is responsible for their implementation.
