The Nursery School System in Halle

Day nurseries taken care of children for either part of the day or the whole day on a regular basis.

At the moment the town of Halle has 51 owner-run children’s day nurseries and 37 facilities run by independent providers.

The town has a wide network of children’s day nursery schools for the care and support of children from the age of 0 up to school entry age and also up to the age of 14 for school children.

Whilst in day care a multitude of various pedagogic approaches are realised.

The town of Halle (Saale) offers day care in:

• Nursery Schools – For children from 0 to 3 years of age
• Kindergartens/Nursery Schools – For children from 3 to 6 years of age or as the case may be, up until school enrolment
• After school care centres – For school children up to 14
    years of age

However, the number of facilities caring for children of mixed ages is on the increase. Most of these facilities look after children aged from 0 to 6 years in small group similar structures. Individual facilities have increased their offer of day care to primary school age. 

After school care centres are found mainly at primary schools. These are centres where children are looked after when school finishes for the day.

Within the scope of regular opening hours and the legal claim to day care, it is possible to have children looked after for 5, 8, 10 or 12 hours each day.

The financial securing of the care services is mainly covered through public funding. Parents themselves must pay a “Parent’s Contribution” to secure part of these costs.

Registration is to be carried out either with the respective authority or at the respective day nursery.
